Clockwork Blue by Gloria Harchar

Clockwork Blue (The Lumière Chronicles)
Love story with a dash of fantasy and a hint of steampunk

I picked this book up because I was attracted by its steampunk lure. Little did I know that the steampunk essense is only some 10% of the book. The rest is of fantasy, drama, sex and colors.

You've got here a tomboyish lady who's got an interesting gift; a brooding, handsome, misunderstood and powerful man; and a couple of pixies. (Yep, those little flying creatures who have the power to unleash evil into the world.)

Overall: An interesting look at industrial England, with a quirky little romance in the middle of it. A quick, cute read, all in all.

Sugar & Salt by Ninotchka Rosca

Sugar & Salt
A quick, lovely look into woman's role in Philippine history

This is a short, simple, beautifully worded fable that plays with the roles of sugar and salt in Philippine history. It also, in particular, notes the experience of the woman, the Filipina, in the history of the Philippines. Few words, very deep, quite moving.

Fresh Fruit Quick Breads by Joyce Middleton

Fresh Fruit Quick Breads (Quick Breads, #1)
Nice & simple recipe book on quick breads with fresh fruit
This is a great, simple recipe book for what the title calls for: quick breads with fresh fruit.

It's simply worded, and, I feel, very personal. I love how the author placed little snippets before each recipe, and I also like the preface here - make sure to read it; it's very helpful (especially for beginners) in the quick bread scene. (I particularly liked her note about how she doesn't like having fresh fruit leftovers - and that's why she incorporates this into her quick breads!)

What I like the most? It's rather difficult for me to get ingredients in some cookbooks from the US or in the Europe. This cookbook, however, is great for me, as I can happily use local ingredients for baking these!

I'd gladly give this 5 stars, but I was saddened to know that there were no pictures of the final products in my copy. (I viewed this over a Kindle App though. The photos I saw with my e-book copy are general pictures of the fruits themselves.)

Overall, it's a lovely read, and, I believe, a great recipe book for fresh fruit quick breads. :)

The Pied Piper of the Undead by Michael Whetzel

The Pied Piper of the Undead
Quick, spunky coming-of-age story set at zombie apocalypse

Wow. How can a book of few pages sweep me off my feet so fast? Amazing, this novelette.

The title is apt (although at first I've been rather impatient to know why, the reason came soon enough), the story intense, the overall feel of the book great. Undoubtedly, there are some gross parts, but hey - it's a book with zombies, for crying out loud. Nice take on the zombie apocalypse theme. Quite a "coming-of-age" story too, now that I think about it. Awesome read.

Lords of Dyscrasia by S.E. Lindberg

Lords of Dyscrasia
Brilliant bloody dark fantasy that will haunt your dreams

This is a story of a man who worked to free himself from a lineage of bondage. He starts with simply denying the Rite of Inheritance of his forefathers, and soon finds himself undead and clothed in the skin of his enemies.

For this is the land of the Lords of Dyscrasia, a land where blood and ichor color the landscape.

I would definitely say that this is unique. I haven't read a lot of this genre, of speculative/horror/gore, but I must say that I had quite an enjoyable ramble as I walked through a world where I could sink my feet in bloodied pools or rotten corpses.

If you have no qualms reading dark fantasy (and feeling as if you've bathed in blood), pick up this book and enjoy. Come, the Lords of Dyscrasia are beckoning, calling you to claim your nightmares.
